LIFE’s Three Versions
Be forewarned, this site contains the Zapruder film’s grisliest frame. It’s an image thoroughly absorbed into popular culture, yet it remains horrifying.
The October 2, 1964 issue of LIFE magazine has a singularly notorious place in the JFK assassination saga.
For reasons never really accounted for, there were at least three versions of that issue. Its cover story was about the just-published Warren Report.
“I am at a loss to explain the discrepancies between the three versions of LIFE,” one of its editors conceded privately.
The article appeared under the byline of Gerald R. Ford. Conflicts of interest don’t get much more blatant. But that is not our concern here.
