McKinney Congratulates Proud Parents

August 9, 2000

Washington - Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) congratulates a Georgia native who has recently been appointed to NASA's Astronaut Candidate Class of 2000.

Air Force Major Eric A. Boe, a 1983 graduate of Henderson High School in Chamblee, Georgia, is starting his Astronaut training in Houston, Texas that will take almost two years to complete. Once finished, he will be trained to take on duties of a shuttle pilot, mission specialist, or mission commander.

In a letter to his parents, McKinney said, "You must be very proud of your son Eric, and as a parent of a young man myself, I know exactly how you feel and share your joy." Mr. and Mrs. Gerald A. Boe currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia.

Major Boe stated, "I'm really excited about all of this and I'm looking forward to going up in the shuttle." He is one of seventeen in his class and the only one from the Fourth Congressional District of Georgia.
