McKinney announces funding for the DeKalb County School System

April 28, 2000

DECATUR-Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is pleased to announce that the DeKalb County School System has been awarded $256,016.00 for the Community Technology Centers Program. This grant was awarded through the United States Department of Education. Gresham Park Elementary, Rainbow Elementary and Hooper Alexander are some of the schools where the technology centers program are currently located.

The purpose of the program is to fund Community Technology Center start-up and expansion programs in distressed urban and rural communities. This project will expand after school programs that provide technology access for economically disadvantaged communities. "These centers provide computer access and educational information technology for people who do not own a computer and may not have access to one at work or school," stated McKinney.
