McKinney Announces Appropriations for 4th District
November 19, 2001
(DECATUR) Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is proud to announce two
appropriations for the 4th Congressional District of Georgia. The Clarkston
Community Center, Inc., located in Clarkston, GA and the DeKalb Multipurpose
Center of DeKalb County, GA were both awarded $100,000 for renovations and
development, respectively. These appropriations were included in the
Department of Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development and Independent
Agencies Appropriations Act, H.R. 2620, which passed the House of
Representatives on November 8, 2001.
"These appropriations are very important to the people the 4th District. Both
community centers will provide an array of services, from senior citizen
assistance and education, to recreation and performing arts. There has been
a lack of such facilities in DeKalb County, and I am proud to assist the
volunteers of Clarkston Community Center, Inc., a non-profit community
organization and the government of DeKalb County to improve and develop such
centers," Congresswoman McKinney stated.
Mr. Dave Hilton, President of Clarkston Community Center, Inc. stated that
"this will be a big help for our community center project." He continued,
"Thanks so much to Congresswoman McKinney." Clarkston, GA has been
considered the most diverse community in the southeast United States, with 50
nationalities speaking over 22 languages. "As this center continues to
improve, the residents of Clarkston - people of many different cultures -
will have a beautiful and effective location to interact, share experiences
and beliefs, and to cooperatively build their community for the future,"
Congresswoman McKinney concluded.
