Keeping Families Together: Congresswoman McKinney Is Working For You

January 21, 2000

DECATUR--At a time when international headlines chronicle that families are being torn apart in this country, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is pleased to announce yet another successful family reunification, for which she has become widely known.

Mrs. Karen B. Idris first arrived at the Decatur District Office on June 1999 after several unsuccessful attempts at obtaining information about the progress of her case from the Immigration and Naturalization Service office in Atlanta, Georgia. Through the persistence and determination of Congresswoman McKinney's office, Mrs. Idris's case was finally processed and sent to the American Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.

Mr. Eltayeb S. Idris returned to the United States on Thursday, January 20, 2000, after voluntarily departing for Egypt on December 1998 due to immigration complications.

"Families should be kept together," commented McKinney, "and we will always place a high premium on bringing families together. I was pleased to be there for the Idris family," continued Congresswoman McKinney.
